I'm excited to announce my candidacy for Executive Board Member and Shop Steward for Maintenance and Construction At Large #1. I’m running because I’m deeply passionate about serving our union and making a positive impact. My vision is to be part of a transformative movement to grow, revitalize, and strengthen our union. I am committed to working for a safer workplace, fair work practices, enforcement of our CBA, fostering union growth, and enhancing transparency and development for everyone in Maintenance. Let’s build a stronger future together!
Local 689 stands as one of the most powerful and influential unions in the Metropolitan area. Our strength comes not just from numbers, but from our unwavering commitment to integrity, solidarity, and fierce representation. As a member of this union, I pledge to continue upholding these principles—ensuring that our collective voice is heard, our rights are defended, and our members are empowered. Together, we will continue to build on our legacy of excellence and ensure that Local 689 remains a beacon of strength and fairness for years to come.
I have over 17 years of extensive experience as a mechanic at WMATA with over 10 years of dedicated service as a Union Representative. My focus has been on the advancement of ALL of Maintenance within our union, advocating for the betterment of union policies and work conditions, aiming to make jobs in the organization safer, fairer, and more supportive for my Union brothers and sisters. This commitment to Union strength, technical excellence, and workplace advocacy highlight my long-standing investment in both the technical and social aspects of this Union.

MAINTENANCE OVER EVERYTHING
“A Union that Strives is a Union that Thrives”
Hello, Union Brothers and Sisters! I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a bit about my journey.
First and foremost, I am grateful to God for all His blessings and opportunities. I was born in Washington D.C. at the original George Washington University Hospital and graduated from Suitland High School, Class of 2002. After high school, I pursued Mechanical Engineering at PGCC, which set the stage for my career.
In 2007, I started working at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and in 2014 I was elected for my first term as Shop Steward. I am a proud father to two amazing sons, Omari and Abijah Walters, and I cherish my time with them.
I have a deep love for God, my family, and a range of interests including traveling, fishing, chess, and automobile building/restoration. Dog breeding and training. Engaging in meaningful conversations and exploring new ideas is something I truly enjoy.
Those who know me know what I stand on!
